The Spence Ridge Trail to the Linville River and The Upper Creek Falls Loop - Spruce Pine, NC
“What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps one in a continual state of inelegance.” - Jane Austen

The Story -
On Saturday morning, Ginger, Sophie, and I hiked the difficult out-and-back three-mile Spence Ridge Trail to the Linville River in the Linville Gorge and the moderate two-mile loop trail to the Upper Creek Falls near Spruce Pine, NC. Our plan was to continue across the only bridge over the Linville River to the west and hike the Linville Gorge River Trail, yet the bridge was in disrepair and missing several sections due to heavy winds and rain. Thus, we decided to turn around instead of trying to cross the dangerous fast-flowing chest-high deep river. With our planned hike cut short, we opted to stop at the nearby Upper Creek Falls Loop Trail. The gorgeous waterfall loop trail seemed like an excellent consolation option, yet our experience was anything but consoling.
